Coaching Soccer

Soccer is more than just an all American sport or something that some might play in their free time. It has become such a popular sport, that it is now considered to be one of the most popular games throughout the world. Almost every country in the world is found with a soccer team that helps them to get in the extra kicks towards victory.

The game of soccer was known to be developed as early as the 1500s by the Chinese and Japanese dynasties. There are also reminiscent of the game that has been found in Rome. While each of these all has different names to them, they are all based around the same concept of kicking a ball across a field in order to get a goal. The game that is most known today has been revised from these rules with a set international standard that was developed in 1863. The standards that have been set have not only allowed the game to grow in popularity, but also to become an international sport where the greatest achievement is to win the world cup.

Soccer begins with two teams of eleven players. They move onto a rectangular piece of grass where they will try to reach the objective of taking a soccer ball and moving it across the field and into a goal. The team that has made the most goals at the end wins the game. When a player gets to the goal line, they will be blocked by a goalie, as well as the soccer ball being taken from opponents on the other team in order to get the ball going in the other direction.

In the official game of soccer, there are seventeen major rules that must be followed, known as the laws of the game. These will have flexibility according to the referees and who is playing the game. This allows the game to remain fair with both teams making the maneuvers that they need to in order to work towards the goal.

Throughout the centuries, soccer has been an integral part of history. Through it's early inception, to the later rules that have been maintained, everyone around the world has learned to love the objectives of the game. All of these bring the players closer to knowing what it means to reach the goal.

Basic Defense

Even when the ball isn't on your side of the court, it is important to be ready for it to get there. Hitting back at exactly the right time is an important defensive rule for any volleyball game. There are several techniques that can be used for the defense part of volleyball; all which will help prevent the team from missing the hit.

The first thing that will need to be done as a defensive team is to be ready for the serve. The best way to do this is to make sure that everyone is positioned in order to block the ball from falling. Being in a position where knees are slightly bent and the legs are ready to move in any direction is a good beginning. Generally, you will want to make sure that both the front line and back line are covering a wide range of space and are able to hit the ball. Often times, coaches will have the front line step slightly back and have the back line step forward in order to cover the space that is needed.

After everyone is set in the right positions, they will need to be ready to attack the ball when it gets to their side. This will begin by being ready for the attack. It is best to get the ball when it is right below your chin. This will make it easier to hit, and you will be able to do so with more power. You will also want to get under the ball in order to keep it off the ground and going towards the other side of the court.

From here, the most important part of playing defensively is to block the ball. Each player should act like the ball is coming towards them, and should be ready to stop it from a fall when they see it. Part of the blocking may be to make sure that if a block is missed, someone else grabs the ball. Other players should be ready to block the ball by the net, just in case it comes too close to hitting the net and falling.

By being prepared and paying attention for the serve, a game can easily take the turn from a defensive line to an offensive one. If your team is getting ready to receive a ball from the other side, you will want to make sure that they are also ready to defend their territory. By doing this, they will be able to set the ball like they want and get it away from where they don't want the ball.

1 You are what you eat

You’ve certainly heard the expression many times, “You are what you eat.” Have you ever really thought about what it means? And do you think about it when you’re making food choices?

In some ways, we do become what we eat, literally. Have you ever seen an example of your blood plasma after eating a fast food hamburger? What was previously a clear liquid becomes cloudy with the fat and cholesterol that’s absorbed from eating a high-fat hamburger.

And when you think about it, we also become what we don’t eat. When we switch from eating meat to a vegetarian-based diet, we become less fat, less prone to many types of cancers. Our cholesterol can improve. When we’re leaner and eating fewer animal products, then many other health and fitness issues are reduced. The incidence of Type II diabetes is reduced. Blood pressure falls into normal ranges. When you’re healthier, you’re taking fewer medications. Even if you have a prescription drug benefit in your health plan, you’re still saving money with fewer co-payments on medications.

If you have a family history of high cholesterol or high blood pressure, then it’s particularly incumbent on you to revise your eating habits. Moving towards a more vegetarian diet has been shown statistically to reduce the incidence of so many of the diseases of industrialized countries. Vegetarians are statistically healthier than omnivorous persons; they’re leaner and live longer.

Isn’t it time to think about what you want to be and to eat accordingly? Do you want to be sluggish and fat? Do you want the risk that goes with eating animal products, with their high fat content? Or do you want to look like and be what vegetarians are? Leaner and fitter with a longer anticipated lifespan. It’s never too late to change what you’re doing and increase your chances for a longer, fitter life.

Going for a stress-free travel

Whether you are going on business or pleasure, traveling can be very stressful. Tension can start from the planning stage up to the time you are leaving. However, stress does not have to ruin your business or vacation. These simple tips are guaranteed to help you get rid of that travel stress bug.

Plan ahead
There is no replacing good planning. To ensure that your travel will be stress-free, make sure that your flights and hotel accommodations are booked and confirmed. This will put you at ease knowing that delays are unlikely and there will be no surprises at the hotel desk.

If you arrange for transportation for the duration of your travel, all the better. In case, you will have to get around the city by taxi, it is good to ask the concierge to help you find a reputable taxi company.

Be prepared to get lost
Remember that you are on a foreign land and unless you have already traveled there a couple of time, you’ll have no way of knowing how to get around. Becoming lost is probably the biggest nightmare for travelers.

Before embarking on your trip, buy a travel book with maps and some useful phrases that you can use with the locals. Carry with you a credit card, identification papers and enough money to get around the city in case you get lost. It is also a good idea to ask your hotel for a business card which you can show to locals when you ask for directions.

By acknowledging that you can get lost, you can better prepare and be ready for anything.

Keep the communication open
Nothing can be a better stress-buster than staying connected with your family when traveling. With today’s technology, communication is increasingly more available. People who travel can now keep in touch through cellular phones, emails and text messages. Rates in international phone calls are also cheaper now than before.

Reward yourself
Do not procrastinate. If on a business travel, make sure that you have done all your work before you go sightseeing. Set aside a day where all you can do is travel to different sights in the city. If your schedule is spread out, make sure that you have ample time to go somewhere. It will also help to make out an itinerary of places to see. You can always ask the hotel to help you with that.

Eat local cuisine
Eating can minimize travel stress! So, treat yourself to local foods and stay away from your usual staple of burger, spaghetti and cola. Be adventurous and have fun in local restaurants. Before leaving, you can ask people who already traveled in the country if they can recommend any restaurants. Hotel personnel can also help you immensely. When you’re there, don’t hesitate to ask for the house specialty and enjoy!

Keep a travel journal
Writing down your experiences during your travel will not only preserves the memories, it will also help you relieve stress. Describe the sights that you have seen, the places that you have been to, even the people you have met. Get small keepsakes from each experience, a napkin from the restaurant where you have eaten, a receipt from a souvenir shop, a bus ticket going to a special place. This will keep the magic of your travel with you.

Analyzing Website Traffic

Analyzing your web traffic statistics can be an invaluable
tool for a number of different reasons. But before you can
make full use of this tool, you need to understand how to
interpret the data.

Most web hosting companies will provide you with basic web
traffic information that you then have to interpret and
make pertinent use of. However, the data you receive from
your host company can be overwhelming if you don't
understand how to apply it to your particular business and
website. Let's start by examining the most basic data - the
average visitors to your site on a daily, weekly, and
monthly basis.

These figures are the most accurate measure of your
website's activity. It would appear on the surface that the
more traffic you see recorded, the better you can assume
your website is doing, but this is an inaccurate
perception. You must also look at the behavior of your
visitors once they come to your website to accurately gauge
the effectiveness of your site.

There is often a great misconception about what is commonly
known as "hits" and what is really effective, quality
traffic to your site. Hits simply means the number of
information requests received by the server. If you think
about the fact that a hit can simply equate to the number
of graphics per page, you will get an idea of how overblown
the concept of hits can be. For example, if your homepage
has 15 graphics on it, the server records this as 15 hits,
when in reality we are talking about a single visitor
checking out a single page on your site. As you can see,
hits are not useful in analyzing your website traffic.

The more visitors that come to your website, the more
accurate your interpretation will become. The greater the
traffic is to your website, the more precise your analysis
will be of overall trends in visitor behavior. The smaller
the number of visitors, the more a few anomalous visitors
can distort the analysis.

The aim is to use the web traffic statistics to figure out
how well or how poorly your site is working for your
visitors. One way to determine this is to find out how long
on average your visitors spend on your site. If the time
spent is relatively brief, it usually indicates an
underlying problem. Then the challenge is to figure out
what that problem is.

It could be that your keywords are directing the wrong type
of visitors to your website, or that your graphics are
confusing or intimidating, causing the visitor to exit
rapidly. Use the knowledge of how much time visitors are
spending on your site to pinpoint specific problems, and
after you fix those problems, continue to use time spent as
a gauge of how effective your fix has been.

Additionally, web traffic stats can help you determine
effective and ineffective areas of your website. If you
have a page that you believe is important, but visitors are
exiting it rapidly, that page needs attention. You could,
for example, consider improving the link to this page by
making the link more noticeable and enticing, or you could
improve the look of the page or the ease that your visitors
can access the necessary information on that page.

If, on the other hand, you notice that visitors are
spending a lot of time on pages that you think are less
important, you might consider moving some of your sales
copy and marketing focus to that particular page.

As you can see, these statistics will reveal vital
information about the effectiveness of individual pages,
and visitor habits and motivation. This is essential
information to any successful Internet marketing campaign.

Your website undoubtedly has exit pages, such as a final
order or contact form. This is a page you can expect your
visitor to exit rapidly. However, not every visitor to your
site is going to find exactly what he or she is looking
for, so statistics may show you a number of different exit
pages. This is normal unless you notice a exit trend on a
particular page that is not intended as an exit page. In
the case that a significant percentage of visitors are
exiting your website on a page not designed for that
purpose, you must closely examine that particular page to
discern what the problem is. Once you pinpoint potential
weaknesses on that page, minor modifications in content or
graphic may have a significant impact on the keeping
visitors moving through your site instead of exiting at the
wrong page.

After you have analyzed your visitor statistics, it's time
to turn to your keywords and phrases. Notice if particular
keywords are directing a specific type of visitor to your
site. The more targeted the visitor - meaning that they
find what they are looking for on your site, and even
better, fill out your contact form or make a purchase - the
more valuable that keyword is.

However, if you find a large number of visitors are being
directed - or should I say misdirected - to your site by a
particular keyword or phrase, that keyword demands
adjustment. Keywords are vital to bringing quality visitors
to your site who are ready to do business with you. Close
analysis of the keywords your visitors are using to find
your site will give you a vital understanding of your
visitor's needs and motivations.

Finally, if you notice that users are finding your website
by typing in your company name, break open the champagne!
It means you have achieved a significant level of brand
recognition, and this is a sure sign of burgeoning success.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Purchasing Your Own Affiliate Tracking Software

Millions of business owners rely on affiliate programs to help increase their sales and in turn their profits. If are the owner of an online business, especially one that sells a particular product or service, you may be able to benefit from the use of an affiliate program. If properly implemented, they are a great way to increase your business’s revenue without having to do a large amount of extra work The first step in getting started is to find an affiliate tracking software.

An affiliate tracking software? If you have never heard of this product before, you may be wondering exactly what it is. Affiliate tracking software is the actual program behind your own affiliate program. If you start your own affiliate program, you will be relying on your banners and links to help increase your websites traffic and its sales. These banners will be placed on the websites of your affiliates. With affiliate programs, each time that one of those links is used to generate a sale, the website owner, webmaster, or website publisher, whoever you are partnering with, will receive compensation for their part in the sale.

To be able to compensate your affiliates, you will need to have a way to determine if, when, and who helped you generate a sale. This can only be done with affiliate tracking software. Therefore, if you are interested in starting your own affiliate program, you must have affiliate tracking software. When it comes to affiliate tracking software, you will have a number of different options. Two of those options include purchasing your own affiliate tracking software program or using someone else’s.

If you use someone else’s affiliate tracking software program, you will most likely end up doing business with an affiliate networking company. These companies not only provide you with tracking software, but they also help to track the sales of your affiliates, and even pay them. The payment feature is unique because it is not offered on most software programs that you have to buy on your own. With software programs that you buy on your own, the software should calculate how much you owe each of your affiliates, but you are required to take care of the rest. Depending on what your business is and how busy you are, you may not have time for this.

Having to pay your own affiliates may seem like a disadvantage to buying your own affiliate tracking software; however, it doesn’t necessarily have to be. Even though you are still required to send out your own payments, you will generally find that this process is easy to do. That is because most affiliate tracking software programs are designed to automatically calculate the amount of money each of your affiliates make. Whether you choose to pay your affiliates on a weekly or monthly basis, you should be able to find out, right away, how much money you have to pay them. If you are paying them with a check, you can simply write the check and move on to something else.

A potential disadvantage to purchasing your own software can actually turn into an advantage. That disadvantage is customer service support. A large number of affiliate tracking software programs do not come with customer support. Almost all will come with a detailed user guide, but customer service support is not guaranteed. Despite the fact not all software programs offer customer support, there are even more that do. This means that if you want to have access to customer service support, you just need to find affiliate tracking software that has the support included. If free customer service support is included, it should be outlined in the software description or software features section.

The above mentioned advantages and disadvantages are important when determining whether or not you should purchase your own affiliate tracking software or do business with an affiliate networking company. Whichever decision you make, you should be well on your way to seeing an increase in profits. The affiliate tracking software program you choose will not have a direct impact on how much money you make, but it will have an impact on how easily your affiliate program flows.

5 Ways to Keep Visitors Coming Back

A lot of successful websites depend on returning visitors to account for a major part of their traffic. Returning visitors are easier to convert into paying customers because the more often they return to a site, the more trust they have in that site. The credibility issue just melts away. Hence, keep your visitors coming back to your site with the following methods:

1) Start a forum, chatroom or shoutbox

When you start a forum, chatroom or shoutbox, you are providing your visitors a place to voice their opinions and interact with their peers -- all of them are visitors of your site. As conversations build up, a sense of community will also follow and your visitors will come back to your site almost religiously every day.

2) Start a web log (blog)

Keep an online journal, or more commonly known as a blog, on your site and keep it updated with latest news about yourself. Human beings are curious creatures and they will keep their eyes glued to the monitor if you post fresh news frequently. You will also build up your credibility as you are proving to them that there is also a real life person behind the website.

3) Carry out polls or surveys

Polls and surveys are other forms of interaction that you should definitely consider adding to your site. They provide a quick way for visitors to voice their opinions and to get involved in your website. Be sure to publish polls or surveys that are strongly relevant to the target market of your website to keep them interested to find out about the results.

4) Hold puzzles, quizzes and games

Just imagine how many office workers procrastinate at work every day, and you will be able to gauge how many people will keep visiting your site if you provide a very interesting or addicting way of entertainment. You can also hold competitions to award the high score winner to keep people trying continuously to earn the prize.

5) Update frequently with fresh content

Update your site frequently with fresh content so that every time your visitors come back, they will have something to read on your site. This is the most widely known and most effective method of attracting returning visitors, but this is also the least carried out one because of the laziness of webmasters. No one will want to browse a site that looks the same over ten years, so keep your site updated with fresh bites!

Important Rules in Website Design

When it comes to your website, extra attention should be paid to every minute detail to make sure it performs optimally to serve its purpose. Here are seven important rules of thumb to observe to make sure your website performs well.

1) Do not use splash pages

Splash pages are the first pages you see when you arrive at a website. They normally have a very beautiful image with words like "welcome" or "click here to enter". In fact, they are just that -- pretty vases with no real purpose. Do not let your visitors have a reason to click on the "back" button! Give them the value of your site up front without the splash page.

2) Do not use excessive banner advertisements

Even the least net savvy people have trained themselves to ignore banner advertisements so you will be wasting valuable website real estate. Instead, provide more valueable content and weave relevant affiliate links into your content, and let your visitors feel that they want to buy instead of being pushed to buy.

3) Have a simple and clear navigation

You have to provide a simple and very straightforward navigation menu so that even a young child will know how to use it. Stay away from complicated Flash based menus or multi-tiered dropdown menus. If your visitors don't know how to navigate, they will leave your site.

4) Have a clear indication of where the user is

When visitors are deeply engrossed in browsing your site, you will want to make sure they know which part of the site they are in at that moment. That way, they will be able to browse relevant information or navigate to any section of the site easily. Don't confuse your visitors because confusion means "abandon ship"!

5) Avoid using audio on your site

If your visitor is going to stay a long time at your site, reading your content, you will want to make sure they're not annoyed by some audio looping on and on on your website. If you insist on adding audio, make sure they have some control over it -- volume or muting controls would work fine.

Firefox 3 beta 4 code freeze tonight, beta 5 release looks likely

The Mozilla Firefox 3 development team expects to freeze the beta 4 code tonight as planned but will likely have to release yet another beta to address some of the outstanding bugs and blockers in the code.

During its weekly Firefox meeting on Tuesday, developers said they will freeze the code tonight, on Feb 26 (before midnight) as planned but will likely have to release a beta 5 before moving onto release candidate mode.

The team hoped that Beta 4 would be the last, as it shoots to ship the final Firefox 3 in early 2008.

“Nothing is going to stop the code freeze tonight [but] a fifth beta is going ot be required,” said one of the developers leading the meeting today. He and others said there are more than 200 bugs remaining in the code, though many have fixes and patches that need to be integrated into the build and tested before the browser beta 4 can be shipped.

“We’re not breaking them because we’re jerks but because we’re stupid,” quipped one of the developers. “No one is really happy about this. Obviously, .. the goal of beta 4 was [to be]the last beta but it’s not.”

Beta 4 incorporates significant new user interface enhancements, including new Vista and Mac OSX icons. The Linux icons are complete, developers said today,

Firefox 3 is expected to be released in early 2008. Developers did not say when Beta 4 would be available to the general public for testing or when Beta 5 would debut.

An update to this report will be provided as details come in.

Google playing politics with open source

For open source, a choice between Google and Microsoft is a false choice.

Yet that’s what Google CEO Eric Schmidt is offering, as when he claims a Microsoft-Yahoo combination might “break the Internet” or that the two might act against the openness of the Internet.

It’s a false choice, in part, because neither Google nor Microsoft can come to the argument with clean hands. Google’s open source efforts are mainly done under Apache licenses, which don’t require they be shared. It does not support the AGPL.

Its catchphrase to “do no evil” is like the Declaration’s statement that “all men are created equal.” It is an aspiration. Reality is different.

Schmidt is playing with open source here much as politicians have been playing with race, religion and gender. By creating a phony “either-or” choice they create majorities and minorities.

But open source is about consensus.

Consensus is when we all agree to agree, then build from there. Even Microsoft has been forced, lately, to bow to consensus. Its Open Specifications Promise may be pie crust, but that’s more than we’ve had before, and that’s progress.

Microsoft’s machinations around Office Open XML, which continue, are all aimed at offering reassurances that a proprietary standard need not be treated as one. True or not, they are at least trying to appear less evil.

They are doing so because the Internet consensus has power. That power is more important than any single vendor’s commitment to it.

Business competition is inevitable. Neither the Internet nor open source are guarantees against it. Both offer a level playing field in which everyone’s evil becomes relative, and no one has the power to make it absolute.

Not Microsoft. Not Google. And that’s not a pie crust promise. It’s a promise we can build on.

After-School Learning Center Opening in Chavis Heights

RALEIGH - On the heels of a year that saw more passing grades among Communities In Schools of Wake County’s middle school students and increased tutorial help for at-risk students, Communities In Schools of Wake County is proud to announce an expansion of its after school tutorial program with the ribbon cutting and opening of the Chavis Heights Learning Center, Wednesday, March 26, 2008, 10 AM, 781 Brightcreek Way, Raleigh.

“Communities In Schools of Wake County has had a fantastic 2007 focused on raising the bar on grades, attendance, and behavior for all of our students, with a special emphasis on our middle school students. We now look forward to taking that success forward with the addition of a new learning center that will allow us to prepare more at-risk students for success in school and in life,” said Susan Hansell, executive director of Communities In Schools of Wake County.

The 2007-2008 school year brought an emphasis on an education-based case management approach for CIS Wake middle and high school students in after school tutorial. In addition to providing after school tutoring, CIS Wake County staff began visiting students’ schools during the school day to sit in on students’ classes, meet with parents, and plan for the afternoon’s tutorial time.

Furthermore, CIS Wake has reduced staff to student ratios from as much as 1:45 to 1:10. CIS Wake now hires certified public school teachers who spend up to three hours a day in the after school centers helping students with homework, classroom preparation, and studying.

Since December 2006, CIS Wake middle school students have, on average, raised their grades two letter grades, from F’s to C’s.

“We won’t stop motivating our kids and improving our methods until our students are getting A’s and B’s,” Hansell asserts.

Since 1990, CIS Wake has been working with at risk students in Wake County providing a safe environment for children living in public housing communities to spend time with caring adults.

Malcolm’s Economics 101 tutorial

MALCOLM Turnbull has managed an impressive trifecta today, getting boxed around the ears by not just Wayne Swan, but also Treasury secretary Ken Henry and Reserve Bank governor Glenn Stevens.

The first bloke, Swan, has not proved an overly strong match to date for Turnbull’s intelligence, drive and burning ambition.

The second and third players, Henry and Stevens, may prove more difficult to rumble. And that’s good news for Swan, who is still finding his feet as Treasurer and now has some powerful ammunition to tackle his opponent’s claimed economic credentials.

For Henry and Stevens, today was the day they decided to hold a little Economics 101 tutorial for Turnbull, without naming him, whether he likes it or not.

First up, Turnbull was pulled into line over his repeated claims in parliament that cabinet ignored Treasury advice to nominate a specific increase to the minimum wage in its submission to the Fair Pay Commission.

“Everyone in Canberra knows the Treasury made a recommendation,’’ Turnbull sad.

“It was $18 a week, which was lower than the ACTU’s recommendation although higher than the business groups had recommended. And Kevin Rudd doesn’t have the compassion, he doesn’t have the courage, he doesn’t have the integrity to make any recommendation to the Fair Pay Commission.”

No, said Treasury boss Henry, in an unusual break with keeping his public silence on such issues.

``I refer to recent claims that the Treasury recommended to the Government that it nominate a specific dollar figure in the Government’s submission to the Australian Fair Pay Commission (AFPC) on minimum wages,’’ Henry said in a statement.

``These claims are false.

``Rather, the Treasury recommended that the Australian government submission to the AFPC support an increase in minimum wages without recommending a specific quantum of minimum wage increase.’’

Earlier, someone had helpfully released selected excerpts of the Treasury advice, repudiating Turnbull’s claims about the cabinet submission on the minimum wage increase to Sky News.

Turnbull argued that if the Government wanted to argue the case, it should release the advice in full.

But the fun wasn’t over for the day, with Reserve Bank governor Stevens also releasing a copy of a speech he made on Wednesday that tackles head-on Turnbull’s claims – and others – that the inflation problem isn’t that much of a problem and that interest rates could be the wrong tool alone to tackle the problem.
“One argument which has been around is that there isn’t much inflation,’’ he said.

“On the face of it, this is not an unreasonable starting point. The latest CPI headline rate is, after all, only 3 per cent. If that is as high as it gets and it comes down at some point before long, then presumably there is not that much of a problem. It would, in fact, be quite consistent with the inflation targeting framework we have been operating on for well over a decade now. The average inflation rate over a run of years would still be ‘two point something’.

“Unfortunately, the situation at present is not quite as benign as that. The headline figure owes quite a bit to the unusually low result in the March quarter of 2007, which was affected by some unusual and temporary effects. When we get the March 2008 figures towards the end of April, we will most likely find that the rise over the four quarters is more like 4 per cent.

“So accepting a rise in trend inflation because of the short term moderation in demand growth needed to contain a pick up in prices would be a very short sighted policy. It would very likely condemn us to a repeat of the problems of the late 1960s and 1970s, when we mistakenly thought we could live with a bit more inflation, and all the attendant difficulty we had in the 1980s in fixing the inflation problem, all over again. It is far better to resist rising inflation now.”

Turnbull is a big player, with big ideas, who has a big future in politics. But there are some other big boys in the economic sandpit, and today two of them – Henry and Stevens – taught him a lesson.
